Miley Cyrus may be facing jail time after being spanked by a Mexican flag

Say what you will about Miley Cyrus, but she’s the indisputable queen of ludicrous headlines. Like, remember when carved up a bunch of porno pumpkins? Or when she was sued by a man who was injured by her giant tongue? Or when she hired Ren and Stimpy‘s creator (and one of Canada’s greatest animators) as her tour’s art director? We can’t make this shit up.

Now, another incredible headline: Cyrus is facing possible jail time after being spanked on-stage with a Mexican flag. Yes, it’s absolutely true.

At a recent show in Monterrey—the largest city in the northwestern state of Nuevo Leon—Miley was doing what Miley does. Namely, twerking. Purportedly as a way to show, uh, appreciation for Mexico, one of her dancers stepped in with a flag, spanking Cyrus mid-twerk with the Tierra Azteca‘s ensign. Of course, she was wearing a giant, fake prosthetic butt—as she demoed on Instagram.

So, what’s the problem, you ask? OK, there’s a lot of problems here. But to the point: in Mexico, it’s illegal to desecrate the flag, and according to Wiki, desecration can involve using the flag unconventionally. We agree that using a flag to spank a giant, fake plastic butt is, uh, unconventional.

According to The Guardian, state legislature has stepped in, asking the Mexican federal government to take action. Lawmaker Francisco Trevino noted that she could be fined upwards of $1,200, or could face up to 36 hours of detainment. Here’s video of the incident. [H/T Jezebel]
