Shit talk new Weezer songs if you will, but you can’t knock Rivers Cuomo’s hustle. In addition to the fact that he’s been steadily turning out albums in an effort to craft “the perfect pop song” since the band got back together for the The Green Album, Deadline reported today that Fox has just picked up a pilot commitment for a show based on his life.

Tentatively titled DeTour, the show will reportedly be centred around a “thirtysomething rock star” who, due to the pressures of success, walks away from the industry to “rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.”

That puts it somewhere post-Pinkerton, but whether that means the show will trace Cuomo’s collegiate life at Harvard or other aspects of his personal life, we can’t say for sure. Expect plenty of references to Cuomo’s tortured genius, though. Like, lay off the guy! He just wants to write the perfect pop song!

Besides, what matters here is that this is a thing that is happening. Sort of.

What Fox has committed to is a “put pilot,” which is effectively a one episode guarantee. Fox would incur a massive penalty if they choose not to air the show, which is co-produced by Psych‘s Steve Franks.
