We’ve long admired the experimental side of Rattail member JFM—or Jesse Frank Matthews to his mother. Loop-heavy and littered with junked samples, his stripped down approach to electronics saw releases by some of Canada’s most esteemed independent labels: Halifax-based Divorce Records cut his LP last year, Toronto-based Pleasence followed up with the Squat cassette in 2014, and, most recently, he cut a 7-inch (with Cancer Bats, of all bands) as part of the long-running Scion Sessions, released at Fucked Up’s serial Long Winter festival.

Today, we’re proud to showcase JFM’s newest video for “101 Dimensions,” a vid that flaunts Matthews’ flair for otherwordly sounds and mind-expanding visual art. Eschewing his penchant for discarded VHS scraps, the video is pure green-screen sorcery: With JFM manning a mobile table full of electronics, the non-stop party shifts from sun-lit galleries, to night-time clubs, to Toronto alleys. Gritty, shapeshifting, and eminently danceable, it’s an excellent visual accompaniment to “101 Dimension.” Check the vid below—the track will also appear on Moult, a collection of JFM tracks cut by Italian imprint Concrete Records.
