It’s no secret: We’re giant fans of Kingfisher Bluez, an imprint tirelessly dedicated to documenting Vancouver’s ever-changing independent music scene. Among their newest releases comes from lo-fi electro-pop outfit Mesa Luna—the duo of Alex Cooper and Justice McLellan, whose moniker namedrops a defunct all-ages venue of the same name—who dropped an excellent two-song 7-inch in February. It unveiled the band’s wistful, stripped-down approach to electro-pop, often hitting the same notes as, say, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. To us, that’s high praise.

Today, they’re also unveiling the video for “Shutting Down,” which Cooper and McLellan co-directed with Simon Thistlewood. Tapping on the same forlorn notes as their music, the video reveals Vancouver’s hypnotizing contrasts: While the band plugs away at an MPC, Vancouver’s vibrant greenery clashes with its cold glass towers. Part romantic, part clinical, it’s the Van City of our dreams.

Check the video below. The 7-inch is available via Kingfisher Bluez.
