Madonna has had a spotty history with substances of all stripes: Legendarily, she named her 2012 album MDNA, but promptly denied an association with mollies. She threatened to walk off stage last year after spotting someone smoking. And then, there’s actions—like opening a concert with fake gunfire in Colorado, a state already sensitive about gun violence—that have made us openly wonder about what substances she’s ingested.

Well, here’s another questionable deed to add to the list: This weekend, she posted a photo of her son, Rocco, partying with his 55-year old mom. And to top if off, the teen—who was fathered with her ex, Guy Ritchie—is armed with bottle of Bombay Sapphire. The photo was reportedly taken in Switzerland, where the family is vacationing; Rocco is the in the centre of the photo, which is captioned with “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014!”

Naturally, this caused outrage: Of course, her son’s underage, and he’s also at the age where kids begin raiding their parents’ liquor cabinet. But what is the Queen of Pop (or the Queen of Road Pops, amirite?) doing enabling this behaviour?

“You’re a terrible mother if you think that a kid posing with a drink is cute or funny,” wrote fede01_8 in the comments of Madonna’s Instagram, which is also littered with photos of giant dicks.

To add fuel to the fire, the Daily Star reports that a secondary image surfaced (below) of the kids behind a bar, which only doubly enraged fans.

Madonna, however, took to Instagram to defend herself. “No one was drinking we were just having fun!” she wrote. “Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don’t start the year off with judgement!”

The critiques, however, haven’t stopped. Which leads us to the question: Is Madonna being the ultimate enabler to her underage son, or everyone’s think-of-the-children outrage justified? The truth probably lies somewhere in between.
