Mild outrage appeared online with a short video of a quadriplegic man getting hit with a flying cake at a Steve Aoki concert appeared online, but as with most things, there’s a backstory.

“Pretty much every time I have ever seen Aoki I’ve always prayed to get caked,” said 19-year-old Aoki fan Ian McAdam. And when that flying bit of batter slid across his face and body at VELD Music Festival in Toronto this past weekend, he finally got his wish.

Getting caked is exactly what it sounds like, and McAdam tells CBC that his chance came after his friends told him he was going to the front of the stage.

“Five or six ripped dudes picked me up and carried me 20 or 30 feet into the crowd towards the front,” he said.

Apparently the “juiceheads” had his 300-plus pound wheelchair suspended in the air near the stage, which caught Aoki’s attention.

“As soon as Steve saw me he instantly went for one of his bigger cakes and right at the drop of the track just hail maryed it,” said McAdam.

After the set, McAdam and his brother (who shot the video, seen up top) went backstage to met Aoki. No harm, no foul—just a bit of a mess to clean up.
