Bill Ward has had his share of problems over the years, from being constantly tortured (and lit on fire) by his Black Sabbath bandmates to more serious struggles with drugs and alcohol, but its his alleged “fatness” that has led to heavy metal mascot Ozzy Osbourne calling the drummer unfit to tour.

As Sabbath fans no doubt already know, Bill Ward has been replaced both on the band’s new album, 13 and on its ensuing tour after ongoing contractual disagreements with the rest of the band, but that didn’t stop Ozzy from telling the New York Daily News this weekend that he didn’t think Ward would have been able to pull it off even if he had come to an agreement with the band.

“I don’t think he could have done the gig, to be honest. He’s incredibly overweight,” said Osbourne. “A drummer has to be in shape. He’s already had two heart attacks. I don’t want to be responsible for his life.”

Adding that it’s “not the same” without Ward, Ozzy said that the door for his return is open. And with such a warm endorsement, how could he ever refuse!
