Listen to the unreleased debut mixtape by a 16-year-old Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar is widely considered to be the hottest MC in the game right now, but he spent years developing the scatter-shot, melodic delivery that made good kid, M.A.A.D. city an instant classic. The Masked Gorilla recently unearthed some of Lamar’s earliest output, posting eight out of eleven tracks from his 2003 debut mixtape. When these tracks were released, Kendrick was only 16-years-old, and still performing as K-Dot.
Hub City Threat, Minor of the Year features the young MC going in over a random selection of classic beats. Stylistically, it’s not the Kendrick we’re used to, but there are elements of his 2013 voice shining through on this rough, but promising debut tape. Check it out below.
