Chris Rock teased fans with a star-studded studio picture promising a new André 3000 album, when they were actually working together on the new A Tribe Called Quest album.

Shortly after A Tribe Called Quest rapper Phife Dawg’s untimely passing in March of this year, comedian Chris Rock created a furor by posting a photo of Phife’s bandmates in the studio with André 3000, Jack White and others and claiming they were “hard at work on the new Andre 3000 album.” A subsequent post by ATCQ member Jarobi White, however, clarified that Rock was pulling our leg and the picture in question had actually captured the group watching a movie in Q-Tip’s home studio following a memorial for Phife.

Guess what though – it looks like Rock is more deceptive than any of us thought. Whether or not the group had been working on music in that particular photo, Q-Tip revealed in a recent New York Times interview that both Jack White and André 3000 had indeed laid down some guest spots in his home studio – not for André’s album, but rather the new (and final) A Tribe Called Quest LP.

Titled We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service and due out November 11, the album also feature Busta Rhymes, Kendrick Lamar and Elton John. Now the question remains – did the new best pals throw down some material that’ll fall under the André 3000 banner? Goddammit Rock – quit being so good at messing with us.
