Anyone who thought Nine Inch Nails were done for good when Trent Reznor put the project on an extended hiatus back in 2009 wasn’t listening close enough, and true to form he’s reportedly reformed them with a surprisingly robust new line-up.

Headlining the new rotation is iconic King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew, who joins Reznor alongside former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery, Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv) and returning collaborators Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin.

“I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show,” said Reznor in a statement (via Pitchfork). “Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.”

Reznor says that the band is planning to tour again this summer with a “full-on arena” circuit in the fall and dates through 2014. On his blog Adrian Belew says the details are still scarce, but that he’s moving to Los Angeles in May for 3-months of rehearsals before the tour starts. Until then, fans can look for his new album with How to Destroy Angels, Welcome oblivion, which hits stores on March 5th through Columbia Records.
