Morrissey announced his return to the stage last night when he told his Facebook followers to look out for him on tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but being Morrissey (read: a turd), he quickly amended the reveal.

According to a second update (both of which have been deleted), he’d realized the other guests on tonight’s show were the stars of the TV show Duck Dynasty and, being the militant vegetarian he is, pledged that he would not make the taping if they were there. The update says that Morrissey is “thankful for being invited to perform” on the show, but that he “cannot morally be on a television show where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests.”

“As far as my reputation is concerned, I can’t take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers,” said Morrissey ina statement posted at fan site True To You. “If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away.”

Which brings us to an interesting stop-gap: why are people still putting up with this guy’s shit? This is the tip of the iceberg, with word that he’s squabbling with the Staples Center over an upcoming show and the venue’s unwillingness to go 100% vegetarian for his gig.

We get that he’s passionate, but there’s a line that he’s consistently managed to cross. And for what? When is the last time you heard anything from Morrissey that wasn’t someone reporting on his batshitness?

Long story short: don’t expect to see him on stage when Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs tonight at 11:35PM. [via Stereogum]
