Did anyone else totally not see this one coming? With Patrick Stump seemingly fully engrossed into his so-so solo stuff, Pete Wentz well into fatherhood, Andy Hurley working well with Enabler and their guitarist doing, uh, whatever, most casual observers kind of figured Fall Out Boy had fizzled out for good. Apparently not, as this morning the band launched a new website to announce Save Rock and Roll, their new album set for release on May 6th.

But anyone taking the album’s title to mean a return to the band’s earlier, more straight-forward sound might be disappointed by “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up),” which is certainly more in line with Infinity on High than Take This To Your Grave. They would also have been insane to expect otherwise.

Directed by Donald/Zaeh, the song’s official video features none other than 2 Chainz, who along with a bunch of grimly clad ladies takes a torch to a pile of CDs, instruments and Fall Out Boy merch.

“When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music. It’s why we started Fall Out Boy in the first place,” reads a statement on the band’s website. “This isn’t a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us.”

Oh, and they’re touring again. Here’s your heads up, Canada

5/24/13 – Toronto, ON @ Sound Academy
