It’s been said that every great rock riff was written first by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, but crazier still is the understanding that what he’s released is just the tip of the iceberg. And now, speaking with Kerrang [via NME], Brian May has confirmed just that, adding even more excitement by announcing that he’s working with Iommi on an album of unreleased riffs for fans to work with.

“I thought it would be great to make a compilation out of them,” said May. “The idea was to put all these riffs out in some form so that people could build their own songs from them. You could make your own music with Tony Iommi on guitar!”

There’s obviously more to this story, like who would legally own the rights to the songs if commercially released and when it’ll actually happen, but this is pretty exciting stuff for guitarists.
