This Exists uncovers and explores the musical peculiarities that exist in the dark corners of the internet, sometimes just outside the mainstream. Today we look at a series of formulas from Wolfram Alpha, an online answer engine that’s discovered how to plot Justin Bieber’s face on a graphing calculator.

iPhone users might know Wolfram Alpha best as the sassy Siri-powering encyclopedia, but now you can think of them as the people that made mathematics hilarious with what they’re calling the Psy Curve, an algebraic equation that, when graphed, looks like Psy doing his infamous dance. You know the one.

And don’t worry, there’s plenty more where this comes from, like for example the Justin Bieber Curve:

Or the Rolling Stones’ infamous “Lips” logo.

It’s part of Wolfram Alpha’s series on mathematics as an art form, the very concept of which makes my brain hurt. The formulas are provided for anyone to try, but they’re so insanely long that we can’t give you an example without making this post stretch on to hilarious lengths.

Actually, forget it. Here’s the PSY Curve. Feel free to try it if you’ve got a TI83+ handy and about an hour (I guess) to kill.
