Last night, Justin Bieber finally surpassed Lady Gaga as the most-followed person on Twitter. Justin had been gaining roughly forty thousand followers per day to Lady Gaga’s thirty, and it was only a matter of time before Yung Biebs tipped the scale in his favour.

Lady Gaga had a considerable head start on Justin, joining the network in 2008, a full year before Justin Bieber registered. Prior to last night, Gaga had been the reigning Queen of Twitter since August of 2010, when she surpassed Britney Spears’ follower count around 5.7 million.

Gaga and Bieber started to clash around the 33 million mark, which incidentally, is only slightly below the entire estimated population of Canada, at 35,002,447. If Bieber keeps gaining steadily at his current rate, he will be followed by more Twitter accounts than people who live in Canada in less than two months. (This, of course, doesn’t take into account the number of “fake” Twitter followers they have. Last time we looked into it via Status People’s Fake Follower Check, Lady Gaga’s followers were 41% fake, and Justin Beiebers 31%.) If Bieber Nation or the Republic Of Gaga were each recognized countries, they’d be the 37th and 38th most populous nations in the world. If they joined forces, they’d have more citizens than all of France.

This has to be big news for Justin Bieber’s fans. We decided to scope out the feeds of some of his most dedicated followers to see how they’re celebrating the news that their idol is sitting pretty on Twitter’s iron throne.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, #Beliebers are not at all gracious. Congrats, I guess.
