Jack White is pictured in Esquire UK’s January issue holding a $250 “flower pen” while wearing a $3000 suit, which makes the ensuing interview all the more interesting.

“I don’t think she lives it because it’s all artifice,” said White referring to Lady Gaga’s pop star persona. “It’s all image with no meaning behind it. You can’t sink your teeth into it. It’s a sound bite. It’s very of this age, because that’s what people want.”

His rant continued, tearing into Twitter as the “perfect example of modern living” and saying that “the goal of modern celebrity is to make yourself into the lowest common denominator.”

On sale today, the issue goes so far as to brand the interview as White’s explanation of how he “remade himself as the saviour of rock’n’roll.”
