Three fans were trampled to death with another two in the hospital after an overcrowded Steve Aoki concert took a turn for the worse in Spain last night.

Reports are a bit iffy, but via Spanish newspaper El Pais Spin reports that the concert might have been incredibly overcrowded. While the promoters are saying they only let in 10,600 out of an allowed capacity of 12,000, some fans were speculating that as many as 20,000 people had crammed into the space.

Police are still looking into the disaster, but it’s thought that the crowd started to stampede in a panic after someone set off a flare. According to one crowd-member, only one of the venue’s exists was open at the time.

“I was in the bottleneck that formed and it was inhuman,” he told El Pais. “You couldn’t move forward, because there were people lying on the ground, or backward, because people kept pushing.”

The chaos reportedly started at around 4 in the morning, though some fans claim they didn’t even know it was happening. By about 7 in the morning, the venue had finally been fully evacuated.
