Because she’s insensitive, Madonna opened her show in Denver last week the same way she’s been doing it all tour long: by walking out (a few hours late) and pretending to shoot the audience.

The difference here, of course, is that Colorado is still reeling from the tragic shootings at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises this past July, during which James Holmes opened fire on an unsuspecting audience in an Aurora movie theatre.

Madge’s MDNA tour started right around the time of the shootings and immediately she was told, and warned, that maybe she was being insensitive. But because she’s also completely self-involved and oblivious, Madonna played off the warnings, with Denver’s CBS affiliate citing a statement that calls her use of guns “metaphors,” a word she probably doesn’t understand but heard once in a movie.

“Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging,” reads the statement. “In my case it’s wanting to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experienced throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken.”

In short: it’s everyone’s fault but Madonna’s.
