Did J-Lo just become the Latin Oprah? Until she learns to caterwaul like an insane person, that will never be the case, but she's closer than ever, now that she's purchased an equity stake in the English-language network for Latinos, nuvoTV.

Did J-Lo just become the Latin Oprah? Until she learns to caterwaul like an insane person, that will never be the case, but she’s closer than ever, now that she’s purchased an equity stake in the English-language network for Latinos, nuvoTV.

When we last checked in with her, she was starring in actually-pretty-hot razor ads and bringing home 52 million dollars’ worth of bacon yearly. And now we’re seeing what she’s been saving up for. Says Lopez: “My partnership with nuvoTV reflects our mutual goal of creating top-quality entertainment and exciting stories that embrace the richness and beauty of Latin culture in America today.”And if she has to run Maid in Manhattan five times a day to get there, then goddammit, that’s just what she’ll have to do.

Lopez will also become the channel’s on-air ambassador – think the WB’s Michigan J. Frog in the 90s – and has agreed to produce content for the network through her company, Nuyorican Productions. It’s not inconceivable to think this could eventually lead to a daytime talk show like that of Oprah Winfrey to anchor the network’s schedule. But until then, you can probably only count on her popping up to say, “Stay tuned for a double shot of George Lopez!”
