Nelly paid Jimmy Fallon’s Late Show a visit last night, which can only mean one of two things; either Nelly is doing a cash-in reunion tour where he only plays songs from Country Grammar, or he’s taking a job as a judge on a televised singing competition. On Jimmy Fallon’s request, Nelly busted out an impromptu version of “Hot In Herre” with accompaniment from The Roots. Get ready to feel old — this performance comes just over 10 years after the single’s initial release.

Sure enough, in the interview with Fallon, Nelly confirmed that he will be taking on a role as a mentor on The CW’s new music competition series The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep. We don’t know anything about the show yet, but we’re really hoping that the core concept is just Nelly going door-to-door in search of talent, like some kind of traveling salesman-version of Simon Cowell.

The interview is shoddy journalism on Fallon’s part though, because he failed to even ask the question of why Nelly decided to toss an extra ‘r’ in the title for “Hot In Herre.” It’s another fabled musical mystery yet to be uncovered.

Nelly is currently working on his seventh studio album, M.O., scheduled for a 2012 release. Still no word on when the 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Nellyville will come out.
