Residents of Cole World were gifted with a special treat from their fearless leader last week — a special elixir of his own concoction, in the form of brand new music.
After almost 100 days of Twitter-silence, J. Cole tweeted a link to “The Cure,” hosted on his new blog Dreamvillain, named after his upstart label Dreamville Records.
The song heavily samples “Lift Off” by The Throne (Kanye West & Jay-Z), featuring Beyoncé, which might suggest that J. Cole is working on a new mixtape. On the track, J. Cole says “Ladies and gentleman, I appreciate your patience. I assure you, it’ll be well worth the wait.”
Based on the liberal use of the original sample, the song definitely sounds like it’s destined to be a mixtape track. That said, it’s not like Cole would have any trouble getting the rights for “Lift Off,” since his mentor and manager is Jay-Z.
Listen to the track below, and we’ll keep you posted if he get wind of a new J. Cole mixtape, album, or otherwise.
