Questlove seems to be taking the musical education of Blue Ivy Carter very seriously. A longtime friend of Jay-Z and Beyonceé, Questlove just gifted baby Blue Ivy an iPod with a curated playlist of over 4000 songs. 4000 songs is probably a lot for 4 month old to handle. 4000 songs at an average 4 minutes each amounts to over 266 hours of music. That's 11 days, and since Blue Ivy was born on January 7th (115 days ago), 11 days of music listening amounts to 9.5% of her life!

Questlove seems to be taking the musical education of Blue Ivy Carter very seriously. A longtime friend of Jay-Z and Beyonceé, Questlove just gifted baby Blue Ivy an iPod with a curated playlist of over 4000 songs.

In an interview with New York Daily News, Questlove said the goal was initially to fill it with 12,000 songs, but when he hit 4000 songs and only reached J alphabetically, he thought it best to get Blue Ivy started.

And, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Questlove said that they “have a system now where [he will] re-up it once a year, every Christmas.” Apparently Jay-Z was thrilled with the gift. Wouldn’t you be? Baby Blue Ivy had no comment, but that’s because she hasn’t even said her first word yet.

4000 songs is probably a lot for 4 month old to handle. 4000 songs at an average 4 minutes each amounts to over 266 hours of music. That’s 11 days. And since Blue Ivy was born on January 7th (115 days ago), 11 days of music listening amounts to 9.5% of her life!

But when you think about it, Blue Ivy’s required listening is no short order. Jay-Z has 14 studio albums and one live album, amounting to (by my count) 225 songs. Beyoncé has 4 solo albums (56 songs), and 4 with Destiny’s Child (55 songs). So even if you’re just including Mom & Dad’s work, you’ve already got 336 songs to choose from. If we start including their featured performances, all of Uncle Yeezy’s discography, and the massive collective output of The Roots, we can see how Questlove got up to 4000 songs so quickly.

Blue Ivy had better start doing her homework. After all, the Christmas re-up is only 7 months away.
