When Jesse Leach left Killswitch Engage after 2002’s Alive or Just Breathing he took a number of die hard fan with him, but after much speculation the band confirmed today that Leach is back in the fold, replacing recently departed Howard Jones on the mic.

“Truth be told, Jesse blew us away in auditions. The room seemed charged with electricity,” said the band in a statement released last night. “He commanded both new and old material, and proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he wanted to do this. The choice became very clear and apparent.”

As for whether the return of Leach brings back hints of their older sound, fans should probably hold their excitement. Much of the band’s upcoming album was written with Jones in the fold, as his sudden departure (which both he and the band notes was amicable) came out of the blue.

“It is a new chapter of my life filled with new and exciting challenges. I will give all that I can to honor the position I have been given and take nothing for granted,” said Leach about the news. Fans might remember he left the band a decade ago after dealing with depression and struggling with his voice.
