When the Roots sneakily played Michele Bachman onto Jimmy Fallon with a rendition of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” we laughed, and cringed, because bold move, right? It’s not gone without its consequences, as now NBC has ordered Questlove to submit all song choices for approval before playing them on the show.

Questlove tells Rolling Stone that the next morning, a 9 a.m. phonecall summoned him to the office, where he was told he must clear every song with three different NBC execs, and he was forbidden to tweet about the incident. “It was a real bummer,” Fallon said to the magazine. “We don’t want to censor anyone, but…I don’t know. Maybe Questlove is a Romney guy.”

Apparently Questlove had a similar stunt in mind for Katie Holmes, but it was the one time Fallon vetoed the drummer. The intended song? “She Blinded Me With Science.” [via NY Post]
