Heads up, nerds: we got your Ben Folds Five retrospective right here. Or we will, on October 11. When Lecacy Recordings releases the definitive Ben Folds Collection! The Career-Spanning Anthology! The best part is that it’ll feature the first new music from the trio in over ten years. You go ahead and listen to those old ‘Folds Five records, and you remember why this is a great idea.

According to Folds’ site, The Best Imitation of Myself: A Retrospective will “rounds up big hits, fan favorites, collectible rarities,” and of course those three new tracks.

There will also be an expanded three-disc version that will include a “24-page booklet and two additional discs with previously unreleased live and studio material, rare solo and BFF demos and studio outtakes, alternate mixes, and scorching concert performances.”

The band had reunited for a one-off Myspace concert in 2008 where they played their last album,The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, front-to-back, but something tells us that’s not all there is in store. [Via Ben Folds]
