“A lot of my songs are from my own perspective just as a fan. Songs about living in a world full of Muggles and just wishing I’d gone to Hogwarts instead of college.”

That is a quote from a real life person who is 23 years old who plays a genre of music that apparently exists called “Wizard Rock,” inspired by guess what. Yeah, Harry Potter.

The New York Times has a feature on these wizard bands, spanning all genres of course, that take all lyrical and aesthetic influence from the teenage wizard series. The most well known, of course (I say ‘of course’ as though I’ve heard of this before, where have I been) is the punk outfit Harry and the Potters, which was formed by brothers Paul and Joe DeGeorge. Now 32, Paul says he “just thought Harry was this really cool, inspiring character.”

There’s a little more about Harry and the Potters, and the whole wide world of wizard rock, in the NYT feature, which you can read here.
