Toronto’s alt-country troupe Cuff the Duke have been quietly working on a new album, and today, Paper Bag Records announced that on October 4, the band will join the label’s roster to release Morning Comes, the first part of a two-part series.

Morning Comes is said to be the ‘low’ to the follow-up album’s ‘high.’ In a press release, singer Wayne Petti elaborates: “These albums are about dealing with loss of someone and the change that brings to one’s life,” he says. “The confusion and loneliness that occurs at that point in someone’s life. Coming to grips with the reality of those things. By the end of this record we start to make peace with this and come to terms with it.” The companion album, which at this point is without further detail, is said to be about “embracing what has happened and navigating down new roads.”

The album—the band’s fifth—was produced once again by Blue Rodeo’s Greg Keelor, who also co-helmed the last record, 2009’s Way Down Here. The upcoming first single will be titled “Count On Me.”
