Listen to 14 bands cover 13 indie icons in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Our Band Could be Your Life

On Sunday night, a handful of terrific bands gathered in New York City to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of writer Michael Azerrad’s Our Band Could Be Your Life, a book now considered a touchstone in documenting the American underground indie boom.
Fourteen current acts performed the songs of thirteen indie icons at Our Concert Could Be Your Life at the Bowery Ballroom, and those scamps at NPR recorded it all for those of us who didn’t go. A true highlight is Ted Leo performing to a pre-self-recorded backing track of all the instruments to Minor Threat songs, freeing him up to stalk the stage Ian MacKaye style. It’s truly intense. You can also hear Titus Andronicus doing a Replacements set (with guest appearance by the Hold Steady’s Craig Finn!), tUnE-yArDs doing Sonic Youth, Dan Deacon performing Butthole Surfers, and many more.
