#Top40Tweets for the week ending April 1st
by Aaron Zorgel
April 1, 2011
At the end of each week, #Top40Tweets lists a cross-section of artists on the current pop charts and puts their tweets on display (along with their current chart number) for your enjoyment/scrutiny. This week, we look at 5 artists on the Billboard Music Charts.
#1: Katy Perry – E.T. feat Kanye West
What I thought was going to be the best April Fool’s prank of all time turned out to be some boring mash-up. Katy, you let me down.
Worth Following?: Yes. Katy’s new single just debuted at #1, and that makes 4 in a row for her. The Dr.Luke/Max Martin/Ammo produced E.T. is one of the coolest pop songs to come out in a while, and the video was directed by Floria Sigisimondi. So you know that’s worth checking out. #aliensexxx
#8: P!nk – F**kin Perfect
Whoa! I mean, it’s good that you can laugh about it now. But, still. Whoa.
Worth Following?: I’m sorta hot and cold on P!nk. Plus, how come everyone gives Ke$ha shit for having a dollar sign in her name, but no one makes mention of P!nk’s exclamation mark? #mysteries
#90: Taylor Swift – Mean
Taylor Swift’s youth looks eerily similar to mine. Dumped by Joe Jonas -> Dumps Taylor Lautner ->Dumped by John Mayer -> Dumped by Jake Gyllenhaal -> Screaming and crying along to third-wave emo. Pretty close.
Worth Following?: Yes. Although she’s tight-lipped on her Twitter, she’s pretty adorable nonetheless. Plus, I don’t think she could handle being unfollowed. So much rejection. #yourhairiseverywhere
#11: Ke$ha – Blow
Shocking revelations spurred by this tweet, in order:
1) Ke$ha flies commercial.
2) Ke$ha knows what shitty balls smell like.
3) WHERE’D THOSE COLD EGGS COME FROM??? #YUM
Worth Following?: Yes. I love to hate Ke$ha’s Twitter-presence.
#61: Justin Bieber – Never Say Never
HERE COME THE TEARS.
Worth Following?: Yes. There had to be one dynamite Top 40 April Fool’s Prank. Thanks, Biebs.
