When we saw that the Toronto Star had dusted off the two-year-old Devolve Me tool to see what Paris Hilton might have looked like in early evolutionary times, we couldn’t help but wonder about some of the faces that frequent AUX, and then about people like Courtney Love and Ke$ha.

Open University, the distance learning centre, introduced the timewaster extremely educational tool as part of its commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth. A meme was born.

Now, it’s reborn. Simply upload a picture, click ‘devolve,’ and watch the hands of music history turn back into various stages of human evolution before your very eyes. Consider these glimpses of early creative mankind the ultimate reference in your “I liked their old stuff better” one-upmanship.

The oldest soul of the bunch? Perhaps not surprisingly, Thom Yorke, who devolved into a lovely looking 3.7-million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis. Ke$ha seems to have evolved the least, not in years passed, but, well… the visuals speak for themselves.
