It has been announced that British actress Julie Andrews, country star Dolly Parton, jazz drummer Roy Haynes and the Ramones will all receive lifetime achievement Grammy Awards next February. It has been noted that all of the other lifetime honorees, except the Ramones, have previously won competitive Grammy Awards, however the punk pioneers never won anything anyway, nor sold any records.

Forming in Forest Hills, New York in the mid-’70s, the Ramones are often cited as the very first punk group who performed non-stop before splitting up after their final gig in 1996 at Lollapalooza. In 2002 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Lead singer Joey, bassist Dee Dee and guitarist Johnny have all passed away with drummers Tommy and Marky still carrying the torch.

The lifetime achievement statuettes will be given out at an event in Los Angeles on February 12, a day before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards ceremony. [Billboard]
