A t-shirt worn by Sid Vicious during the filming of the Sex Pistols’ mockumentary The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle is on sale for £10,000, roughly $15,000 Canadian. The movie gives a very loose account of the band’s formation, rise and breakup and was released in 1980.

Designed by Macolm McLaren, the pistols’ band manager and stylist who died earlier this year, the shirt is emblazoned with a swastika and caused controversy when Vicious wore it on set. Memorabilia dealer Helen Hall said, “this iconic piece of clothing is one of the most memorable worn by Sid Vicious. It sums up everything that punk and the Sex Pistols stood for: rebellion, controversy and provocation.”

Joining the pistols in 1977 based on his look rather than musical talents, Vicious was arrested in New York City a year later and charged with the murder of his then girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. She was found stabbed to death. After posting bail for a separate arrest for an assault, the bassist overdosed at a party. He was 21. His mother found a suicide note a couple days after he was cremated. [Telegraph]
