Destroying punk history, just to prove a point.

You might remember the internet blowing up back in March over claims that Joe Corré, the offspring of Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood, intended to burn millions of dollars worth of Sex Pistols memorabilia to protest… the Queen or some shit?

Corré wasn’t too chuffed at the Royal Family’s endorsement of 2016 being dubbed the Year of Punk across Britain, as Punk London celebrates 40 years of the subculture. In an interview with Crack Magazine, he mourned, “Talk about alternative and punk culture being appropriated by the mainstream.” He must’ve missed the bit where that was literally what his parents did?

Now, Corré has made good on those promises. He’s started the demolitions with burning an acetate of the Pistols’ “Anarchy In The U.K.,” whilst videotaping the ordeal, and what’s more punk than recording yourself burning shit and broadcasting it for the mainstream to see? “Hey everyone, come and look at how punk I am! I don’t give a shoot about ANYTHING!” So, the apple doesn’t fall far!

The acetate was initially listed on eBay, but when the bidding ended below what Corré was hoping for, he decided to trash the record. He’s planning to set fire to the rest of the collection this Saturday, on the 40th anniversary of “Anarchy In The U.K.”

Corré is under fire for declining to auction the material and donate the proceeds to charity. He responded eloquently and gracefully: “Bollocks! It’s my stuff, I can burn it if I want to.”

Check out the video here, or, better yet, don’t.
