This morning in new music; Jane's Addiction calls it quits, don't hold your breath for a Velvet Underground reunion and NPR offers up Plastic Beach in its entirety.

According to bassist Eric Avery’s twitter account, Jane’s Addiction is no more. The band parted ways in 1991 and in 2004, but reunited with Avery, one of the founding members, in 2008. “Thats it,” Avery said. “With equal parts regret and relief, the Jane’s Addiction experiment is at an end.” [Twitter]

Keeping with bands no longer playing together or refusing to play, the Velvet Underground’s John Cale has quashed any hopes of the band reforming. Citing the death of former guitarist Sterling Morrison as one of the reasons why a reunion wouldn’t work, he also said “whatever the Velvet Underground did they’ve done, and it’s in the past. I respect that people admire what we did, that’s gratifying, but I’m in such a different place with what I think songwriting is these days.” [BBC]

And the new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, is currently streaming in its entirety on NPR. For the album, Damon Albarn and co. have brought in Lou Reed, Snoop Dog, Bobby Womack, Mos Def and several others to help. [NPR]
