Our first new taste of Gorillaz music was more than worth the wait

After months (years?) of teasing, Gorillaz are finally, indisputably back.

“Hallelujah Money” is the group’s first new song in 6 years and with the help of Benjamin Clementine, it’s a dark, timely affair.

Intentionally released on the eve of Donald Trump’s inauguration, the pulsing track carries along Clementine’s unsettling vibrato, hitting its crescendo as the video projects images of torturous terror behind him. It’s not the catchiest song, but its visually affecting and enough to spin the hype machine’s wheels.

We don’t know when we’ll get a new Gorillaz album, but we expect “Hallelujah Money” will be on it. We can’t wait.
