In the first of his SXSW dispatches, Colin Medley checks in from Austin after two longs days on the road where he is joining friends 'Forest City Lovers' on their festival tour.

So I’ve been asked to keep a diary while I’m in Austin, so forgive me if the next few blog entries are even more self-indulgent than usual. I left Toronto on Monday morning, traveling with my good friends Kat, Kyle, and Christian, who are all members of Forest City Lovers. They’re actually playing some shows at SXSW, while I’m just coming along for the ride. After staying over in Clarksville, Tennessee on Monday night, after another long day of driving and bad food, we arrived safely in Austin at around 11 PM. We’re staying with a couple of ex-pats, Dave and Graham, friends of friends from back home, and we couldn’t have gotten a warmer greeting. Moments after arriving, we were sitting in their living room with some drinks in our hands, watching the Leafs game on TV (actually downloaded off the internet since that’s the only way to get it down here). A bunch of their friends came over and we made our way over to one of the oldest bars in Austin called the Longbranch. After having a few drinks, we rolled back to where we’re staying and promptly hit the hay. After a great night sleep, I’m up and ready for my first full day in Texas!!! Here’s a photo of Christian, Kyle, me, and our host Dave.
