Former Attack In Black bassist Ian Kehoe released his debut album as Marine Dreams last year, and he’s just released a video for “Sudden Dark Truths,” a clip that is, fittingly, stark and dark.

Directed by Toronto team Colin Medley and Jared Raab, who’ve also done videos for Diamond Rings and Forest City Lovers, among others (and let’s not forget Raab’s video of those Peterborough students trying to save their high school), “Sudden Dark Truths” was filmed on a deserted road near Raab’s hometown.

“I’ve liked Ian’s music for a long time and started brainstorming with Jared about something we could shoot very quickly that would be simple but interesting,” Medley says in a statement. “The entire budget was probably $50 for gas, not including the delicious stew that Jared’s mom made us that night.”

The strobe effect was created using a technique called 3D shift (or camera shift), made by shooting with side-by-side cameras simultaneously, then switching between the two in editing.
