That's Mr. Kraftwerk to you!

UPDATE: Unfortunately, and perhaps unsurprisingly, this isn’t real. Apparently a little bit of fun that went too far, Florida Man™ David Sanborn photoshopped his license after a mundane day at the DMV, and was as shocked as anyone to watch it go viral. Telling the AV Club that he did nothing to promote the photos, Sanborn says he hadn’t intended to fool anyone, adding that he wanted to see how “non-mundane” he could make his DMV trip. “Nobody has ever seen Kraftwerk do anything really mundane,” he said. And he’s not wrong.

While we may have fallen for this little stunt, we wanted to believe. And so while we now know the truth, he’ll always be Kraftwerk to us.

Kraftwerk was born in the Sunshine State in 1969 and will officially expire in October 2024. Huh, I could’ve sworn they were from Europe somewhere, but live and learn I guess. Oh, wait – we’re talking about Kraftwerk the dude, not the seminal German electronic group that forever changed the course of music.

As his Flickr account documents, a Florida resident has emphatically proved his undying loyalty to Ralf und Florian, and the merging of man and machine by legally changing his name to Kraftwerk.

Kraftwerk fans never do anything half-assed. It’s not enough for them to change their name, they’ve got to go the whole Meile and do it while in a snappy Man-Machine-era red suit/black tie combo, and then take pics of the rest of their day.

Wonder if the organ he plans on donating is a vintage Vako Orchestron? In any case, sleep well, young Kraftwerk, you’ve got a long day on the Autobahn tomorrow, by which I mean the I-75.
