Celine Dion seemed ecstatic for the happy young couple.

People love getting engaged in front of their celebrity heroes. Sometimes the proposer officially enlists the help of said famous person (and sometimes Tom Hanks just kind of shows up), but often they’ll just grab the 30-second window afforded by a meet-and-greet.

That was the case when Nick Janevski decided to propose to his girlfriend, Austin McMillan. Luckily for Nick, being the former trainer of Celine Dion’s manager won him the hookup of a 30-second meet-and-greet with the superstar, who happens to be Austin’s favourite singer. 30 second proposal? No problem.

First, play it cool and take the usual awkward picture with a celebrity that’s clearly already thinking about her next kale and quinoa shake.

Next, immediately go down on one knee (you probably only have 15 seconds left at this point) as said celebrity is firmly in ‘wtf’ mode.

At this point, everybody realizes what’s going on. You’ve almost certainly bought yourself at least a minute or two with Dion’s handlers (what kind of monster hustles a couple out mid-proposal?). This is a good thing, because apparently McMillan froze right up: “I was just shocked. I just looked at Celine Dion and then we both looked at him … I just kissed him.” At which point, we get the reaction from Dion that makes this whole story:

I’m imagining a super French Canadian “Mon Dieu!” and it’s hilarious. At this point, Dion is all in on what’s happening, and you get these two cute pictures of her nearly tearing up and then looking happy for the couple.

Smooth, Nick. Real smooth. To top it all off, Dion left the couple with some seriously heartstring-tugging words, referencing her recently-deceased husband of 22 years René Angélil: “I hope you have a long and happy marriage, just like I did with my husband.”
