Trent Reznor tweeted in December that there would be a new Nine Inch Nails album in 2016. When a fan recently asked where it was, he responded: 2016 is not over yet.

Last December, Trent Reznor tweeted, definitively, that there would be new Nine Inch Nails coming in 2016. Other stuff, too.

We now know what that other stuff is: A song for NASA’s Juno spacecraft, and the scores for the upcoming Boston marathon movie and Leonardo DiCaprio’s climate change documentary.

But that new Nine Inch Nails material? Reznor’s basically been mum on it ever since. Until now.

On Instagram, Reznor responded to a fan who asked for an update. “What’s the word on new NIN for 2016 like you said @treznor???”

“2016 is not over yet,” he responded.

Back in December, when Reznor first teased this new Nine Inch Nails, he told Rolling Stone that the new record wasn’t one he was “trying to finish in a month,” hinting that it would be a lengthy process. But his succinct response suggests that the process might finally be coming.

Could we be in for a surprise Nine Inch Nails album in the coming weeks? Here’s hoping…
