People are the worst. Luckily, the company behind the memorial planned for that: They have back-up memorial plaques already ready to go.

“Didja hear? They just put up a plaque honouring David Bowie at his old house in Berlin. Wanna go see it?”

“Well yeah we could do that….or we could smash it and get people all mad and stuff.”

“Ooo! Let’s do the second one!”

I can’t prove it, but I’m guessing that’s the conversation that took place between the upstanding citizens morons who travelled to the Berlin building in which Bowie and Iggy Pop resided in during the 70s and smashed the plaque the city of Berlin had lovingly placed there back in August. In case you’re wondering about the message inscribed on it, here’s a rough translation:

“In this house lived from 1976 to 1978 David Bowie 8.1.1947 – 10.1.2016. In this time arose the albums Low, Heroes, and Lodger. They go by the Berlin Trilogy in the history of music.”

The message ends with a quote from the chorus of “Heroes,”: “We can be heroes, just for one day.”

“Hey, Douche #1 – I think this plaque is trying to inspire us!”

“What?? No piece of marble tries to get me to better myself! Hand me that hammer, bro.”

There’s some good news though – the company that supplied the plaque actually made a number of copies in case of damage or theft (also somewhat depressing that this was so predictable they had to make that decision). Suggestion: Put up a cheap decoy plaque next, and offer the burliest Bowie fans free lodging at the home once they lie in wait for the next group of idiots that are feeling smashy.
