Laotian snake with a rainbow head gets an iconic name.

Biologists have discovered 163 different species of cool shit this year in the Mekong, a vast part of southeast Asia including Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and more. The list is actually crammed with Pokemon-looking creatures; a newt that kind of looks like a Klingon, a horned tree lizard that HAS to be a tiny dragon, and a super wooly bat. But certainly the best part is a rainbow-headed snake that’s now named “Ziggy Stardust.”

The Bowie-inspired snake was found in Laos, and it’s multi-coloured head prompted researchers to name it after the dearly departed Starman. So if you’re still in mourning over Bowie’s death (let’s face it, we all are), you can make a pilgrimage to Laos to hang out with the “Ziggy Stardust” snake and pay your respects. [h/t Gizmodo]
