Floods in Baton Rouge have left tens of thousands of Louisiana residents homeless.

While Taylor Swift has mostly found herself in the tabloids of late because of her never-ending drama with Kanye West and her relationship with Tom Hiddleston, she finds herself on our website today because a pretty generous good deed — according to the AP, she’s donated $1 million to relief efforts in Louisiana.

If you’ve been asleep for the past week, or simply don’t keep up with the news, southeastern Louisiana has been hit with record floods over the last week, with Baton Rouge — one of the cities Katrina victims fled to because of its high ground — left essentially underwater. The floods left at least 11 dead, with more than 40,000 homes left decimated by the floods.

“We began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home,” said Swift in a statement. “The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking.”

I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time.

The Red Cross has called the flood the worst natural disaster (in the United States) since Super Storm Sandy, and damages are expected to top $1 billion.
