Iggy Pop, Pusha T, and Paul McCartney sign 'open letter to congress' after Orlando shootings.

Following the country’s latest (and most deadly yet) mass shooting, many Americans were understandably upset that a number of proposed gun control measures were struck down in the Senate.

When the GOP leadership flat out refused to allow a vote on a measure that would prevent certain suspected terrorists from buying guns last Wednesday, House Democrats went so far as to stage a sit in. Some of music’s biggest names are now showing that they too feel the government should be doing more to curb gun violence through a unique Billboard magazine cover. Click below to enlarge:

Close to 200 artists signed their names in support of the petition which takes up the entire cover of the magazine. Directly addressing elected officials and titled “An Open Letter To Congress, Stop Gun Violence Now”, the petition reads in part:

“As leading artists and executives in the music industry, we are adding our voices to the chorus of Americans demanding change. Billboard and the undersigned implore you — the people who are elected to represent us — to close the deadly loopholes that put the lives of so many music fans, and all of us, at risk.”

Some of the signees include Barbara Streisand, Beck, Calvin Harris, Iggy Pop, Paul McCartney, Pusha T, Questlove, Tori Amos, and Thom Yorke. In what was likely a tribute to the victims of the Orlando shooting which took place at an LGBTQ nightclub, the text was printed in a rainbow font. The magazine collaborated with gun-violence prevention group Everytown to create the petition and acquire the signatures.
