The 'Drops of Jupiter' dudes have a 'Whole Lotta Love' for Led Zeppelin.

In news that will excite a large number of white people, soft-rock titans Train have announced that they’ll be releasing a Led Zeppelin cover album. So… um, enjoy that.

Earmarked for a June 3 release, Train Does Led Zeppelin II is just that. The “Drops of Jupiter” dudes will be providing their take on the classic rock staple Led Zeppelin II and the world will finally know what “Whole Lotta Love” would sound like if commissioned by a mall salon.

That’s actually a bit harsh. Led Zeppelin’s been covered previously by the likes of 4 Non Blondes, Godsmack and Blind Melon, so it’s not like Train is bringing something extra egregious to the table. Here’s a sample:

“It’s no surprise that Led Zeppelin is one of our favourite bands,” writes frontman Pat Monahan in a statement that shows he doesn’t know what surprises are. “I’ve been singing Zeppelin songs in every band I’ve been in since I was a young kid, Train included. It only made sense to record a Zeppelin album for all of you, but it was obviously a difficult decision to pick which one. We followed our hearts and chose Led Zeppelin II. When we perform Zeppelin songs it brings people a different perspective of our band and brings us closer to people because their work is a common love for so many.”

Train Does Led Zeppelin II doesn’t sound particularly appealing, but the proceeds are going to support Family House (“a home away from home for families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses”), and that’s definitely a good thing.
