The Space Jam sequel stars LeBron James from the brains behind Fast & Furious.

Because nothing sacred lasts forever, the Hollywood Reporter, uh, reported today that the long rumoured, oft-denied Space Jam sequel is finally happening.

According to the report, the sequel to Looney Tunes’ Michael Jordan vanity piece will star Lebron James and, if the talks progress as expected, will be directed by Fast & Furious and Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin.

Whether this will live up to the original (which hasn’t aged as well as you think once you strip it of its nostalgia) is one question; whether it will at least be better than Kevin Durant’s Thunderstruck is another. But after having watched LeBron steal scenes in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck, we’re not nearly as worried as we once were.

Still, it begs the question of who fills out the rest of the cast; the NBA has evolved considerably since 1996, and there’s nary a Shawn Bradley in sight.
