Prophets of Rage features 3/4 of RATM with Chuck D and B-Real, but no Zack de la Rocha.

Fans of Rage Against the Machine were keeping calm like a bomb when a cryptic website and posters teased a June 1 announcement of something known as Prophets of Rage.

Now, Billboard has revealed through anonymous sources that it’s “not a Rage Against the Machine-specific reunion” and in fact a supergroup. Here’s what they report:

Sources tell Billboard that three-quarters of the storied band — guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk — are joining forces with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real to form a supergroup called Prophets of Rage (referencing a Public Enemy song of the same name from the 1988 album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back) to perform songs by all three bands. Rage vocalist Zack de la Rocha is not involved.

Prophets of Rage will hit the stage for the first time at the Hollywood Palladium on June 3, with another show planned at L.A.’s Whisky A Go-Go. While the website originally stated that “the party’s over summer 2016” a full tour is now apparently “also being considered.”

This news may be somewhat disappointing for RATM heads who were expecting the original line-up to reunite for the first time since 2011, but in the world’s current political climate, they can surely find a few things to rage about.
