'I got nothing against him. Once the music goes out, everybody can use it for anything.'

Noted Neil Young fan Donald Trump felt the Bern last summer. The businessman’s use of “Rockin’ in the Free World” at a campaign launch event resulted in Young’s manager smacking down the song’s authorization and stating the following: “Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President.” Sanders then doubled down on The Donald and used the song in his own rallies.

As Stereogum reports, the old man has taken a look at his life and decided to stop yelling at clouds. In a video interview with Reuters, Young shrugs it all off and says if Trump got a legal license to use “Rockin’ In The Free World”, then he’s “got nothing against him.” Next time he just wants him to ask first.

“The fact that I said I was for Bernie Sanders and then he didn’t ask me to use ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ doesn’t mean that he can’t use it,” said Young. “He actually got a license to use it. I mean, he said he did and I believe him. So I got nothing against him. You know, once the music goes out, everybody can use it for anything. But if the artist who made it is saying you never spoke to them, if that means something to you, you probably will stop playing it. And it meant something to Donald and he stopped.”
