She's the second artist with this honour after Michael Jackson's 1990 Michael Jackson Award.

Further proof that we’re living in the most ridiculous, most recursive of all possible worlds: pop empress Taylor Swift is going to be the inaugural recipient of the world’s first Taylor Swift Award. Well, she was the odds-on favourite, just edging out Kenny Loggins.

As part of the 64th annual BMI Pop Awards, Taylor Swift will be presented with the first and only Taylor Swift Award in “recognition of her incomparable creative and artistic talent and influence on music lovers throughout the world.” This will only be the second time the Broadcast Music, Inc. organization has given out a special, personalized award, the first one being the Michael Jackson Award in 1990. “Ah, hee hee, I think I can make it if Bubbles settles down.”

The awards ceremony, which will take place on May 10th in Beverly Hills, will be hosted by BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations Barbara Cane. It will also honour the iconic husband-and-wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who gave the world “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.”

“This evening is a true celebration of music and a tribute to the artistry of songwriting that spans generations as defined by three of the most prolific and influential music creators in the industry: Taylor Swift, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil,” Mike O’Neill said in a press release. Well, a celebration of that, and pointless masturbatory awards.
