Hundreds of fans showed up at the Ohio Sunoco despite knowing the show was a hoax.

Now you’ve done it, Ohio – you’ve given Fred Durst the basis to claim “Limp Bizkit is more than just a band, it’s a lifestyle.”

In the run up to 4/20, a rumour began circulating that Limp Bizkit would be playing a show at a Sunoco gas station in Dayton, Ohio. The prank picked up so much steam that the local police were forced to send out a bulletin informing the public that the band would not, in fact, be bringing their timeless nu-metal stylings to the local pumps.

The station itself also did its best to keep the middle-aged meatheads away:

What those ol’ squares failed to realize, though, is that for a Limp Bizkit fan, it’s less about the show and more about the party. By the end of the night, a couple hundred fans (pretty impressive numbers for a fake Limp Bizkit show in 2016) had shown up at the gas station. As you would expect, 99% of them were rip roaring drunk. Eventually, the Sunoco was actually forced to close and turn out the lights in an attempt to get the crowd to disperse.

Other than a couple rocket scientists that believed Fred was probably “in one of them buildings watching us right now,” all the people interviewed knew it was a hoax but decided to come down just for the fun of it. Even up until today, people are still having fun with the gag – the best by far being hilarious “footage” from the concert you can check out below. Smart money’s on a “Thank You Dayton for reminding the world about us” Limp Bizkit concert this summer.
